A sales slogan is an easy-to-remember statement that companies use in advertisements. Effective advertising slogans are short, catchy, and well-suited to the product or campaign the business wants to promote and sell.

How to Report or Block Suspicious Ads

When you encounter a suspicious online ad, the process for reporting or blocking it depends on where the ad is appearing. Most major advertising platforms, like Google, Facebook, and Instagram, have built-in tools for this purpose.

How to report a suspicious ad

  • On Google services (Search, YouTube, Gmail): Click the More or Info icon (typically three vertical dots or a triangle) next to the ad. Select Report ad and follow the instructions to describe the reason for your report.
  • On social media (Facebook, Instagram): Tap the three dots (···) in the top-right corner of the ad. Choose Report Ad and select the most relevant reason, such as "Misleading or Scam". You can also use Meta's Ad Library to report an ad you saw previously.
  • On partner websites and apps: For ads that carry the AdChoices icon, click the icon and follow the prompts to report it. You may be redirected to a form to submit more details.
  • For pop-up ads and unwanted notifications: If a pop-up ad asks you to call a number or download something, it is likely a scam. The safest action is to close the browser tab. If you can't, use your computer's Task Manager or Force Quit function. You can also disable browser notifications from specific sites in your browser's settings.
  • To a government authority (India): For financial fraud or cybercrime resulting from an ad, you can report the incident on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call the helpline at 1930.

How to block a suspicious ad

  • On Google services (Search, YouTube, Discover): Use My Ad Center to control your ad experience. You can block specific ads by clicking the More or Info icon and selecting Block ad. This will stop the ad from being shown to you on Google services for at least six months.
  • On mobile (Android): Go to your device's Settings > Privacy > Ads to reset or delete your advertising ID. This will make future ads less relevant and targeted to you.
  • In your web browser: Install a reputable browser extension like AdBlock or Malwarebytes Browser Guard. These tools can block most ads automatically, including intrusive pop-ups, and help protect against malicious websites and trackers.
  • By resetting browser settings: If unwanted ads persist, you can reset your web browser to its original default settings. This is often an option within the browser's advanced settings menu.
